Could the Chicago Blackhawks use Connor Bedard in this way--to trade this veteran forward
With the draft of Connor Bedard by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2023, the team has pulled off a coup. This could be the key to moving the team's rebuild forward sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, Kyle Davidson has to make use of the talent available through trades or acquisitions to elevate the team.
In addition to adding a great supporting cast, Davidson may want to take Bedard's skill and use it to propel players through the lineup.
A veteran like
Tyler Johnson could be a good candidate for this. It is possible that Johnson, who had a great season last year, could be elevated by Bedard's play and become a compelling trade target as a result.
If Davidson wants to move Johnson, he may be forced to eat a portion of his $5 million cap hit.
According to Scott Powers of The Athletic, Johnson may be traded since he is a pending free agent.
In addition to putting Johnson in a prime position, Davidson would be able to accumulate assets along the way.
Taking advantage of Bedard's eventual arrival in this way would be smart.
