One of the many reasons Crosby's last game turned out to be so devastatingly disappointing (if you're a Penguins fan) is the fact that it started off with a record breaking goal by none other than Sidney Crosby, of course.
Thirty seconds into the game, an errant Bryan Rust pass finds it way to the Captain, who takes his infamous position of one knee to the ice, and we all know what happens next.
Scoring his 14th opening minute goal, 35 year old Crosby surpasses Mark Messier at 13 for all-time leader. This record marks his 12th NHL record. He currently holds 8 franchise records, and is not showing any signs of slowing down.
Hopefully, the Penguins can build off their Captain's momentum, and play full games with the same tenacity they did in the second period. They clearly have the talent to make good things happen, but consistency is the key.
They'll have another chance to prove themselves tonight, in Buffalo.
