Former Blackhawk Mattias Janmark signed a one-year deal today with the Edmonton Oilers worth $1.25 million.
Janmark, 29 years old, plays left wing and center. He has the capability to play up and down the lineup. Janmark's stint with the Blackhawks was during the 2020-2021 season where he scored 19 points in 41 games before being traded to the Vegas Golden Knights at the trade deadline. The Blackhawks acquired a 2021 2nd and a 2022 3rd round pick for Janmark in a three team trade. Janmark had some good moments in Chicago, but was a nice trade piece when the Blackhawks fell out of contention.
Last season, Janmark scored 25 points in 67 games for Vegas. Janmark won't light up the score sheet, but he is a strong skater who not only creates scoring chances for his linemates, but also isn't afraid to throw his body around to make a play.
This is a very low-risk high reward signing for the Edmonton Oilers. While Janmark won't light up the scoresheet or drastically improve the team by himself, he is a quality player and a very good pickup. Look for Janmark to jump into the Oilers PK and checking lines next season as they take another crack at hoisting the Stanley Cup.
