This will be Domi's fifth team in seven years in the NHL. He started out as the 12th overall selection back in 2013 by the Arizona Coyotes. He tallied 36 goals, 99 assists in 222 games in Arizona.
Then in June of 2018 he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in return for Alex Galchenyuk. Domi had his best season in the NHL in 2018-19. He had 28 goals, 44 assists in 82 games.
In October of 2020 he was dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Josh Anderson. Since his good 2018-19 season, he has not scored more than 44 points in a season.
He was then traded again to the Carolina Hurricanes in March of this year.
His $5.3 million contract was not going to be matched wherever he signed with his lower statistics.
So, he signed with the rebuilding Blackhawks for one-year at $3 million.
What many may not know about Domi is, he had junior diabetes and has to wear an insulin bag even while playing to prevent his sugar levels from falling too low.
Domi had a solution for this in that he purchased a specially trained dog to alert him by detecting from his saliva aroma if his levels were not correct.
He named the dog 'Orion', and while he is not a pet, Domi has to have him with him most of the time. He even watches over him as he sleeps and will bark to wake his owner if he detects a dangerous situation arising.

When Domi was playing for the Arizona Coyotes, he became good friends with Anthony Duclair, now with the Florida Panthers. The two were an instant success on the Yotes playing on the same line and even rooming together. That was until Duclair discovered he was allergic to the dog's hair and had to move out.
The duo had a nickname while they were playing together. They were knows as the Killer 'D's" and it was quite uncanny how they knew where each other was on the ice. They were able to anticipate where each other were headed when they entered the offensive zone.
They were able to team up for about eight different goals once they were hooked up together on the same line.
Max Domi won't take anything from any opposing player. Look for him to not back down from a confrontation in defense of his teammates. He is a scraper and it shows by his 430 penalty minutes in 501 career games.
With the Hawks rebuilding, Domi will be one of the veterans who can mentor younger players.
He is an excellent addition to the Blackhawks
