Goaltender Decides to Not Wear Pride Sticker on His Helmet
The Toronto Maple Leafs celebrated Pride Night during their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Toronto last night. While the team opted out of wearing new Pride jerseys, they showed their support by wearing LGBTQ+ Pride stickers on their helmets during warmup. However, one goalie, Ilya Samsonov, decided not to wear the sticker on his helmet.
Samsonov's decision caused controversy, and he was not made available to discuss his choice before the game. However, the Maple Leafs' actions demonstrated that they were committed to creating a more inclusive environment in hockey. By wearing Pride decals, they sent a message that they stood with the LGBTQ+ community, even if they didn't wear special jerseys.
Overall, the Maple Leafs' Pride Night was a step forward in creating a more welcoming and inclusive space for all hockey fans and players.
