New Blackhawks forward scored his first Hawks goal tonight!
With less than five games in this NHL season, many teams are going to their AHL clubs to find players to try out and see how they would do. With the trade deadline passed and the rule stating that any team can have any size of roster gives GMs a chance to see what they've drafted and see if they are ready to play next season.
The Blackhawks were playing against the Calgary Flames tonight, and newcomer Austin Wagner showed head coach Luke Richardson and Kyle Davidson why he makes a case to become a Blackhawk regular next year.
The 25-year-old left winger was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2015 in the fourth round 99th choice overall. At 6 foot one in 195 pounds, he certainly gives the Blackhawks some speed up front that will help them compete in many foot races with other teams.
He was sent to the Hawks for future considerations in this year's trade deadline. He is coming off a $1.13 million contract and will be an RFA this season with available arbitration rates. I feel that the Blackhawks will retain him for a few more seasons to see how he will pan out as the Hawks continue to move into their rebuilding phase.
The Blackhawks beat the Calgary Flames tonight 4-3. They will continue
their road trip West and be in Vancouver to play the Canucks on Thursday, April 6. Game time will be 10:00 PM eastern
