Incase you missed the news late last night just after 11pm Eastern time the Calgary Flames traded Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers for Johnathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, prospect Cole Schwindt, and a 2025 first round pick.
In Calgary many Flames fans loved the move knowing that there was zero chance of Tkachuk signing long-term, while some Flames fans felt they could more then they did for a player like Tkachuk.
The same thing happened infact probably worse. Some Florida Panthers fans are hyped to have Matthew Tkachuk while others feel the Flames fleeced the Panthers feeling the Panthers paid way too much, Including shipping off one of the best Florida Panthers players of all-time Johnathan Huberdeau.
The difference in this deal though is big for the Florida Panthers Matthew Tkachuk just signed a brand new 8 year contract extension with the Panthers. While Johnathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar are both in the final year of their current contracts and are both pending unrestricted free agents at the end of this season.
With that said not even 24 hours after the deal Hockey Insider David Pagnotta reports, teams have already began calling the Calgary Flames to see if they will be flipping Jonathan Huberdeau for more assets.
