Chris Chelios is undoubtedly one of the best to ever wear the number 7 on his back for the Blackhawks organization. Chelios, a Chicago native, spent 9 seasons in Chicago, leading them to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1992 and 7 playoff appearances. Chelios was exactly what the Blackhawks needed at the time. He brought a physical presence and shutdown defenseman attitude, which helped the Blackhawks flourish.
The Blackhawks acquired Chris Chelios from the Montreal Canadians in exchange for Denis Savard Chelios in 1990, a trade that sent shockwaves through the NHL. Chelios tallied 487 points in his Blackhawks tenure, which ranks 4th all-time in Blackhawks' franchise history. Chelios also won the Norris Trophy twice (1993 and 1996) during his time in Chicago.
Chelios played in the NHL until the age of 48, tying Gordie Howe's 26 seasons played record. He was praised for his extreme work ethic, often being called by his coaches and teammates as the «hardest worker in the room». This work ethic was a driving factor to assisting him to playing a record 1,651 games, ranking first all-time amongst defensemen. It is safe to say that Chelios was one of the best to wear number 7 in Chicago!
