The NHL pays veteran referees of 15+ years roughly $430,000 plus and first year referees between $137,000- $200,000. But what do they get paid in post-season playoffs?

NHL referees do not make a salary in post season playoffs, but they sure get a nice pay through bonuses.

Referees earn $27,000 per playoff round worked, with linesmen earning $17,250 per round.

In comparison to referees making anywhere from $4,000 to $5,000 per game in the regular season. The $27,000 per playoff round is a flat rate pay whether it's a 4 game series or it goes to a game 7 which equals roughly $3,870 per game if it were to go to a game 7.

Via scoutingtherefs.com referees are also entitled to a retirement fee, and it's pretty crazy.

Officials also collect a retirement bonus based on playoff games worked over the course of their careers.

Each official shall be entitled to a retirement bonus calculated as follows: (1) referees shall be entitled to a payment of $27,000 USD times the number of playoff games worked in his career divided by sixty (60); and (2) linesmen shall be entitled to a payment of $17,250 USD times the number of playoff games worked in his career divided by sixty (60).

Injuries:

If a official gets injured in the regular season and is unable to officiate a playoff series, they will still be paid hence them not working.
