The Blackhawks had themselves quite the busy draft night. They made three selections on night one, all in the first round. They received the 7th pick a mere hours before the draft started by trading Alex DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators. With that 7th pick, the Blackhawks selected defenseman Kevin Korchinski from the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds. Here is what he had to say about being picked by the Blackhawks.
Korchinski on what it was like to hear his name called:
"It was surreal, just hearing the Seattle Thunderbirds team and then my name. Hugging my mom right after, being there with them. It was awesome!"
Korchinski on his style of play:
"I'm offensive first. I love to create offense. I love to go on the rush. I love using my feet, my puck skills, my passing ability, yea I just love to be around the puck."
Korchinksi on how his game has evolved and changed over the years:
"For me, development is a huge thing. Just in the summer you know trying to get better You know three years ago, you never see yourself getting picked in the top 10 of the NHL draft........ But for me, this is just the start and I want to continue that development."
Korchinski on when he would like to get to the NHL level:
"That's up to the Blackhawks. That's their choice. If I return to Seattle that would be awesome. We got a great team there and were gonna make a run. But to me, it's whatever they [the blackhawks] want."
