Multi-game suspension handed after sucker punch knocks player out
We typically love to see fighting in hockey, but this one is a little different.
Thomas Schemitsch, of the Swedish Hockey League, gave a sucker punch to Linus Oberg. The punch was completely uncalled for as the two just had a general push-and-shove battle following the whistle.
We see these push-and-shove situations almost every time the puck is frozen by the goalie with traffic near the net. So, the punch from Schemitsch was completely uncalled for ad excessively violent.
Thanks to Blades of Steel, we now know that Schemitsch received a 3-game suspension.
Schemitsch was a former 3rd round pick by the Panthers, but he never made it to the NHL following six years in the AHL.
