NHL Player to Face Potential Punishment After Violating The Coaches Respect Rule
Martin St. Louis, the Head Coach of the Montreal Canadiens, has been emphasizing accountability since he joined the team. He believes in the same philosophies that helped him achieve success during his playing career and encourages his players to follow suit. As a result, he is very strict about enforcing team rules.
After a disappointing 9-5 loss to the Florida Panthers, Jonathan Drouin showed up late for a mandatory team meeting the following morning, which is a big no-go in the NHL. These types of situations can be compared back to 2011 when Claude Julien healthy scratched Tyler Seguin for missing the teams breakfast:
Boston coach Claude Julien made Seguin a healthy scratch after the second-year pro overslept the team's breakfast and meeting earlier in the day. Julien asserted that there would be no exceptions made for Seguin, especially since it was not the first such incident for the 19-year-old.
"If you start not dealing with those issues," Julien explained, "it's only going to get worse."
Martin St.Louis seems to be in the same boat right now as he told the media he did not want to address if Jonathan Drouin was playing tomorrow for the Canadiens or not, after being late to the team meeting.
