Igor Shesterkin has set the NHL on fire since his debut back in January of 2020 for the New York Rangers. In his 98 appearances, he has compiled a 62-27 record with a 2.28 goals against average, a .929 save percentage and eight shutouts.
He helped the Rangers accomplish something Tuesday that hadn't been done in 49 years as they recorded their third straight shutout, a 3-0 blanking of the Winnipeg Jets. It also was the Rangers 50th victory of the season which had only been reached five times in their history.
The Rangers' current shutout streak stands at 180 minutes and 6 seconds. The team record is 297:43 which occurred in 1927-28.
Shesty helped move the Rangers into a tie for first place in the Atlantic with Carolina and with five games left, they have a chance to break the team wins record of 53 which was set in the 2014-15 season.
With Andrei Vasilevskiy's recent struggles, Shesterkin has to be the Vezina favorite. It's hard to believe he doesn't even have 100 games of NHL experience. The sky is the limit for the Russian netminder.
