Unfortunately, those stats are still up-to-date, as Kane did not garner any points in the Blackhawks' abysmal 7-2 loss to the Jets on Sunday.
And back in 2019, he tied Chelios for all-time points by a US born NHL player. He has since surpassed him, of course, as Chris retired with 948, and is now at number 13 on the list. Patrick Kane has moved up a bit to number 5, with 1196, and has the most of any active US born NHL player.
Even though fans would love to see Kaner climb that list and retire in his current sweater, the trajectory of the team might not be in his best interest, right now. We know he loves Chicago, and this team, but if it's not fun to play, anymore, at that agewhat do you do? If you still want to play, which he does, would you stick it out, knowing it might taint your final years of the only NHL home you've ever known? Or do you look to go somewhere else, where you might have some help to make more of an impact, and showcase your skills?
We'll know soon, enough. Until then, let's just enjoy this future Hall of Fame while we have him.
