Whether it's the winter classic or the leagues Heritageclassic, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and the league typically announce a select number of outdoor games per year. The NHL picks a few lucky clubs.
The league's most recent announcement will make two fan bases thrilled, but also other NHL teams still may be interested in attending, or viewing this game from home.
The Battle of Alberta will be played in the 2023 Heritage Classic, the NHL just confirmed.
The NHL made a wise decision by scheduling one of the most watched rivalries in sports. This game will bring together two teams who deserve to play outside and bring in big money for the league.
The 2023 Heritage Classic will mark the third time the Oilers will participate in an outdoor game the club having played in that inaugural Heritage Classic and the 2016 game in Winnipeg and also the third for the Flames, who similarly hosted a Heritage Classic, in 2011, and took on Winnipeg in 2019.
