REPORT: Maple Leafs Forward Auston Matthews Has Signed a New Contract That'll Likely Determine His Future
Since signing his $52 million dollar deal dating back to 2019, Auston Matthews and his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs has been in question by many, and plenty of reporters around the National Hockey League as well.
Matthews is quite frustrated when asked about his future in the NHL, especially if the questions are regarding his childhood and hometown team, the Arizona Coyotes.
With the Leafs failing to produce and make it out of the first round in many dreadful years, as well as the Toronto media being very overdoing, people expect Matthews to sign elsewhere when his NHL contract with the Maple Leafs expires after next season. Matthews is also expected to become the highest paid NHL player, whether that may be with the Leafs or not.
It seems as if his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs became more prominent today after Auston announced via his social media that he will be announcing a large sponsorship which includes a multi-year deal with the Royal Bank of Canada.
You have to wonder if the deal is with the Royal Bank of Canada, does the contract include something to do with remaining on a Canadian NHL team, or does it influence Matthews' future in Canada with the Leafs?
