The Senators have lots of cash tied-up in their forward crop, and still need to pay forward Alex DeBrincat if they wish to keep him around, which would not make much sense as they have signed their core forward group to eight year high paying deals, the Senators could potentially look at trading DeBrincat.
Stuetzle, Norris, Tkachuk and Chabot have earned term and large dollars, which could leave far too little money to pay Chabot's defensive partner Artem Zub.
With that said, it seems all but imminent, that unless the Senators are able to unload so cap space their Russian pillar could be on his way out... The Senators are struggling in the defensive area, and defense wins championships, forward Alex DeBrincat will need big bucks to return back in Ottawa next year, one team that does still have the cap room is the Chicago Blackhawks, where they hold Seth Jones which is also rumoured to be on the chop block, this would make sense for both franchises and would also give the Blackhawks fan base a morale boost.
And given Zub's solid play that anchor's and balances Chabot's style, many teams will be ready to pounce and the Senators could lose an important piece.
