The CJHL Will Implement A New Rule For Cages and Bubbles For Players
The Canadian Junior Hockey League has been in operation since 1993 and has a widespread presence across Canada, from the Prairies to the Coasts. As a Junior A hockey league, it comprises of 9 divisions and 4 conferences.
In the upcoming 2023 Annual General Meeting, with the assistance of Hockey Canada, the CJHL will be instituting rules for cage and face-bubble usage across all leagues for all players.
The CJHL is implementing a cage/bubble rule starting next season.
2023-24 season � 16, 17 and 18 year old players (05/06/07 birth years)
2024-25 season � 16, 17, 18 and 19 year old players (05/06/07/08 birth years)
2025-26 season � all players must wear full facial protection
All CJHL players born after December 31st, 2004, will be required to wear full facial protection for all on-ice activities.
The mandates have been structured based on birth year and age, and will be phased in yearly until the 2025-2026 season when all players will be required to wear a cage and/or bubble for on-ice participation.
With the emphasis on player safety, the CJHL is taking the necessary steps to ensure the well-being of young talent during both practices and games. Hockey is an enjoyable sport, and the CJHL is doing its due diligence to minimize potential harm to its players.
