The Montreal Canadiens announced Friday that they have cut 23 players from training camp. Kent Hughes, general manager of the Canadiens, told the media that all players will report to the Laval Rockets' training camp, which begins Sunday (Oct. 2). The departures include 13 forwards, eight defensemen, and two goalkeepers.
Players with NHL contracts such as Lucas Condotta, Gianni Fairbrother, Cam Hillis, Jan Mysak and Joël Teasdale will be loaned to the Laval Rockets. The following players will participate in the Rockets' training camp as part of a tryout: Pierrick Dubé, John Parker-Jones, Miguël Tourigny and William Trudeau. After that, Peter Abbandonato, Anthony Beauregard, Gabriel Bourque, Santino Centorame, Tory Dello, Philippe Desrosiers, Ryan Francis, Olivier Galipeau, Alex Green, Danick Martel, Émile Poirier, Brennan Saulnier, Brett Stapley and Joe Vrbetic will also participate in the Laval Rockets training camp.
Even though this cut affects 23 players, there is no real surprise here. All of the above players did not impress the Montreal Canadiens organization at camp. The only player I thought could play another preseason game with Montreal is William Trudeau. In my opinion, he did a good job and did not disappoint. He is still young and can play one last season with the Charlottetown Islanders in the QJMHL. He earned his spot in Laval's training camp.
