The Chicago Blackhawks were reportedly planning to move superstar Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers at some point this year, according to rumours that have persisted for practically the entire season.

The St. Louis Blues' star Vladimir Tarasenko anddefenseman Niko Mikkola were acquired by the New York Rangers Thursday,in return for a 2023 first-round pick, a 2024 fourth-round pick, andforwards Sammy Blais and Hunter Skinner.

Some questioned why the Rangers selected Tarasenko over Kane in light of this. The Rangers responded by admitting they were worried about Kane's well-known hip issue. With Kane reportedly delaying season-ending hip surgery, the Rangers decided it was safer to sign Tarasenko.

This may be a huge issue and may be the determining factor, forcing Kane to potentially stay in Chicago until he is fully healthy.

Kane wasn't too happy when the Rangers traded for Tarasenko and let it be known:

Patrick Kane on the Rangers' Tarasenko deal:

"It's not like the happiest I've been to hear about a trade. ... If things are going to happen, that was a team I was definitely looking at. It seems like they kind of filled their void and went ahead and made a deal."

Patrick Kane said he and Pat Brisson haven't outright told Kyle Davidson what he wants:

"Obviously you want to do right by the franchise, and the organization here has been amazing to me and given me so much. So you definitely want what's best for both sides."
