These NHL Players Are Banned From Specific Ads
In a move to safeguard children and youth, Ontario will prohibit celebrity endorsements in online gambling ads starting February 2024. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) responded to concerns raised by advocates and parents regarding the extensive exposure of such ads during Sportsnet NHL broadcasts.
The aim is to create a safer media environment, particularly for vulnerable demographics.
This decision reflects a commitment to youth protection and responsible advertising. High-profile athletes like Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, and Wayne Gretzky, who participated in these endorsements, will no longer appear in such ads in Ontario post-February. The ban emphasizes the province's dedication to balance entertainment with responsible messaging.
