On April 29, 1965 The Chicago Blackhawks played game six of the Stanley Cup playoffs with the Montreal Canadiens. The Blackhawks won the game at home in Chicago tying the series at 3-3.

Leading up to the finals the team had played an impressive season beating out the Detroit RedWings in the playoffs. The team consisted of legends Bobby Hull, Phil Esposito, Stan Mikita, Pierre Pilote, and Glenn Hall. All who were the top scorers of the season, apart from goalie Glenn Hall who was in the net all seven playoff games.

However in game six defenseman Elmer Vasko, (Moose), was the underdog of the game. He had played for the Blackhawks for Ten seasons. Despite having one of the lowest scoring seasons of his career with only 6 assists up until game six. During the third period, where Vasko scored his first goal of the season tying the game 1-1, this would be his second playoff goal in seven seasons. Vasko didn't stop there, two minutes later he assisted Doug Mohns' game winning goal. That would end up being Vasko's last game with the Blackhawks, but what a high note to end on.

Montreal went on to win the Cup in game 7 where the Blackhawks fell 0-4. Ironically the playoffs had a home ice advantage, with Montreal winning all four games played at the forum, and the Blackhawks coming back by winning the three games played at The Old Chicago Stadium. It was also the first time that the hockey season had gone on into May.
