Seth Jones is by far the Blackhawks best defenseman. He currently has 10 goals and 21 assists, adding up to 21 points in 60 games. Seth was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Unfortunately for Chicago, his best times were in Columbus as the 28 year old continues to age. Former General Manager Stan Bowman signed Jones to a 8-year, $76 million contract that is still seen as a bad contract to this day.
1: Victor Hedman - At the current moment, Victor Hedman is the highest paid defenseman on the Tampa Bay Lightning, arguably one of the best in the league at his position as well (Mikhall Sergachev will be getting a raise with a $8,500,000 contract starting next season, making him the highest paid defenseman on Tampa Bay and still less money than Jones). Hedman currently makes $7,875,000 a year and that contract will be ending when he hits the age of 35 in 2025. Victor has 44 points in 67 games.
2: Quinn Hughes - Quinn is only 23 years old and is already looking like one of the best defenseman in the league. He will be the highest paid player at $7,850,000 before winger J.T. Miller's contract hits at $8,000,000 a year. Currently, Hughes has 67 points in 66 games, more than a point-per-game pace.
3: Josh Morrissey - Josh is 27 years old and wears the "A" on his sweater for the Winnipeg Jets. He wasn't expected to be anything that special this year, just your average defender, but he really stepped up his game. Morrissey has 69 points in 70 games, almost a point-per-game pace.
In conclusion, Seth Jones is overpaid, and if the Blackhawks want to do a proper rebuild they'll have to find another bottom-dwelling team with loads of cap to take on his contract.
