Going into the season there were zero expectations surrounding the Blackhawks. There was no expectation of winning, especially after trading away Kirby Dach and Alex DeBrincat. Captain Jonathan Toews was coming off of a dreadful season and many wondered when he would be heading out the door as well. Then, the season started.

The Blackhawks started 0-2, then went on a streak. As of Monday afternoon, the Hawks are 5-5-2 through 12 games played. They have 12 points and are in sole possession of the 2nd wild card spot. Toews spoke to reporters about the expectations and the mood around the locker room.

«Right now it's fun to just go play. I know we were talking about expectations a second ago and there weren't really any for out team and for myself, especially this year.» Toews has been off to a terrific start this season, scoring a career-high 7th goal in 11 games. While this team will most likely not be playoff bound, it is great to see how this team will refuse to quit. There are brighter days ahead in Chicago, but it is time to sit back and enjoy the ride.
