Two Montreal Canadiens Prospects Hit With Unfortunate News..
The final cuts for Team Canada were made, and two familiar names for Canadiens fans made the list of final cuts, Blake Biondi (UMD) and Luke Tuch (BU Terriers) - ultimately losing their last chance to participate in the annual tournament.
Blake Biondi and Luke Tuch are a pair of centres who took the NCAA route for thier hockey journey, Biondi at UMD under the tutelage of head coach and retired NHLer Scott Sandelin, and Tuch at Boston University, for the Terriers under head coach (retired NHL player) Jay Pandolfo.
Biondi was selected by former Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin - he was selected with the 109th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Biondi has since spent his past seasons in the NCAA with University of Minnesota-Duluth, racking up 19 goals, 14 for 33 points through games. Standing 6' tall, weighing 193 lbs., Biondi's game is predicated on causing turnovers with his high IQ, and quick defensive stick, offensively he sets himself up in front of the opposing teams net and thrives by tipping pucks, digging for loose rebounds and tapping feeds into the net in-tight.
The second Canadiens prospect to get cut was Luke Tuch.
Tuch was selected in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft with the 47th overall selection, as a future committment to Boston University. During his time in the NCAA Tuch has shown flashes of what he can potentially do at the NHL level - size, vision, strength and IQ are strong components of Luke Tuch's game - posting 12 goals, nine assists and 21 points in 42 games over three seasons at BU. There's one Tuch brother in the league, with Alex in Buffalo, so perhaps the brothers can duke it out with the Sabres and Canadiens.
