The Blackhawks traded away Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers (Arizona chipped in and retained some salary, also getting a 2023 conditional third round pick). The return to Chicago was a conditional 2023 second round pick, Vili Saarijarvi, and Andy Welenski. The main thing Hawks fans were excited about was that the second round pick we received could turn into a first rounder. Well, that won't be happening.
It's unfortunate. Davidson traded Kane away for a second. The conditions on the pick were that if the Rangers would've made the Eastern Conference Finals, that pick would've turned into a first round pick for 2024. Now, the pick was top-10 protected, meaning if the pick happened to be in the top-10 of the draft, we wouldn't get it. Instead, we would get an unprotected first round pick for 2025 on New York's behalf.
However, none of that will be happening because the Rangers lost to the New Jersey Devils in Round 1. New Jersey had a 3-2 series lead, NY took Game 6 at Madison Square Garden, but lost on the road in Game 7, 4-0.
