In order to protect other players, the WHL will enforce well-established rules and conduct for junior players.

Victoria Royals forward Alex Edwards has just learned this after being suspended by the WHL for 25 games. After sending Dexter Whittle to the hospital.

Victoria Royals forward Alex Edwards has been suspended for 25 games for this hit on Everett Silvertips defenceman Dexter Whittle. Edwards was suspended twice last season and will be eligible to return to the lineup on December 1st.

As a result of being hospitalized, his Everett Silvertips opponent Dexter Whittle will miss much of the season.

Having been suspended twice last season, Edwards is not the first time he has been suspended. On December 1st, Edwards will be eligible to return to the ice.

Didn't get the hit but happened right infront of me this was some of what followed

However, Whittle will be out for an indefinite period of time, despite the fact he will recover from the injury.

Our thoughts are with Dexter and his family during this difficult time,» the Silvertips said in a statement, per Victoria's Times Colonist newspaper.

Due to Edwards' history of repeated offenses in the WHL, the decision against him was based on that fact.

«In addition to the severity of Edwards' actions, other key factors considered in the decision include the severe injury to the opponent on the play and the fact Edwards is a repeat offender,» the WHL said in a statement.

While Whittle and his family are going through this difficult time, the Everett Silvertips sent their best wishes.

Victoria Royals have decided not to appeal the decision, which is a wise decision.
