What Would it Take For Patrick Kane to Re-Sign as a Chicago Blackhawk?
Patrick Kane is arguably one of the best players in Blackhawks history, if not the entire NHL. With three Stanley Cups and countless other awards and trophies, he's been one of the biggest keys to success the team has had. He's been on the Hawks for the entirety of his career, and the organization and fans wouldn't have it any other way.
As the days on his contract are counted down, so are the days until the Blackhawks have newfound cap space. Kane has said himself that he wants to remain on the team as a leader as they enter the rebuild, but what needs to happen in order for that to be possible?
Having him as a leader through the rebuild would be beneficial, but it would be harder to have more young players involved if Kane's pay stays the same. If he was willing to take a bridge deal here for less money, he can still be a part of the rebuild and stay in the place he loves.
Kane's stats throughout the past 7 seasons prove that he still produces at the level his pay grade is. It could be argued that he should be more of a goal scorer, but he's transitioned into a playmaker. Kane led in assists (66), and when he's on a line with Dylan Strome and Alex Debrincat you know good things will come.
After next season, it's going to be hard to guess what will happen with Kane. If he decides to re-sign here, more likely than not it will be for less money. Whether or not that cut is worth it in order to help shape the future of the Blackhawks is up to him.
