Wild winger Marcus Foligno suspended for kneeing Jets forward Adam Lowry in the head
Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Foligno is a player who is no stranger to playing on the edge, but on Tuesday night against the Winnipeg Jets, he took things just a little too far - and now he's found himself in some hot water with the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
During a spirited tilt with Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry, Foligno and his foe wound up on the ice with the officials attempting to break things up. Lowry and Foligno remained locked up until the Wild winger wound up and delivered a knee to a downed Lowry.
For his actions on Tuesday, Foligno has been suspended two games, and will be forced to sit out of Saturday's matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes and Monday's game against the Red Wings - both at home at the Xcel Energy Center. He is eligible to return on Wednesday against - you guessed it - the Winnipeg Jets. It will be interesting to see if there is some retribution coming next week.
