The situation in NHL management has taken an interesting twist with former general manager Don Waddell of the Carolina Hurricanes has stepped down as president and GM.
Waddell was with the Hurricanes since 2014 and on May 8th, 2018, he was named president and general manager.
His record speaks for himself as his teams built for the Hurricanes had been quite successful in the regular season and have had some success in the playoffs but still have work to do to try to get over the hump for a long playoff run.
His contract was set to expire at the end of this season.
It was reported earlier today that three teams have clear interest in Waddell which include the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks are currently managed by Kyle Davidson who has been an up-and-coming executive for the organization for the last few years and he now has his hands on the team as he took his big step forward.
The notion that the Blackhawks would fire Davidson and replace him with Waddell would be a shocking move to say the least.
Bringing in a man like Waddell who has vast experience as an NHL general manager and president on several organizations, would certainly be enticing for the Blackhawks as they continue To rebuild their roster and may seek veteran leadership.
Waddell is quite connected within the league and certainly could craft deals and signings that could help the Blackhawks move their rebuild along faster.
It is worth noting, that two other teams are on this list including the Buffalo Sabres who have Kevyn Adams as their general manager and the Columbus Blue Jackets who are during a search spearheaded by President John Davidson.
It remains to be seen on whether the Wirtz family would consider a move like this but in the meantime Davidson as the reigns and is preparing for the NHL Entry Draft.
