Fleury makes retirement announcement to the NHL media

Marc-Andre Fleury has made an important decision that the 2024-25 season will be his last in the National Hockey League.

At the end of the regular season, Fleury admitted retirement was near- but that he was not ready to put the pads away for good.

In mid-April, he signed a one-year extension with the Minnesota Wild following the completion of his 2-year deal that he signed with the Chicago Blackhawks at the 2022 trade deadline.

«I'm not doing this again. «No, this is it.» Said Fleury.

«I am more certain than last year, It's going to be the last."

«I'm going to try to enjoy my last year, have fun, win games, I think the games to be play will be interesting. I could end up second [on the NHL's all-time list in saves]. But it's not a big deal. It's not something I absolutely need to achieve.»

If Fleury does not reach that milestone, he will still retire as one of the best to ever lace them up, just passing Patrick Roy this past season on the NHL's all-time win list for goaltenders.

The Wild missed the playoffs last year, we can only hope Fleury and the Wild go all in for his final season.
