The Winnipeg Jets are desperate to stay in the playoffs, as the competition with the Colorado Avalanche has tightened.

The worst had happened today, as the Jets took on the Avalanche during Game 4 of the best of 7 series.

In the 3rd period, the Jets' Nate Schmidt shot the puck with urgency, as the Jets continued to try and hold onto a glimpse of hope to stay in the series.

After the slapshot, Schmidt's effort had unintended consequences, as it smacked his teammate Vladislav Namestikov in the face, brutally.

This would result in Namestikov having to be helped off the ice and the Jets down another man, putting a possible damper on hopes of advancement in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Afterward, the Jets would lose 5-1 to the lethal and effective Avalanche and down 3-1 in the series.

Namestikov played a total of ten minutes and had one shot on goal.

For the storied year the Jets have had, it's important for them to show their support to their comrade, regroup and find a new game plan, as Rick Bowness needs to find chinks in the Avalanches' armor to strike.
