The LA Kings shook up their coaching staff late in the season, as Jim Hiller was promoted to head coach in place of Todd McLellan being fired.
As it looks now, Hiller is padding out the coaching staff, with people of his own choosing, undoubtedly coordinating with Rob Blake for future success.
One of those recent hires was ex-Blackhawks coach Newell Brown, who served 2 years with the organization between 1996-1998 prior to moving on to the Columbus Bluejackets organization following his brief tenure in Chicago.
This will continue his tenure as an assistant coach in LA, joining D.J. Smith, Derik Johnson, Mike Buckley, and Sam Lee.
Before becoming an assistant coach in the NHL, Brown coached the Adirondack Red Wings in the AHL from 1992-1996.
Brown is no stranger to puck, as he was selected by the Vancouver Canucks 158th overall in the 1982 NHL Draft.
He also skated in the QMJHL from 1978-1980 for his hometown team, the Cornwall Royals.
Brown's last coaching gig in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks during the 2023-2024 season.
