Major rumor sending Stamkos to Chicago has just been confirmed
It seems likely that Steven Stamkos may have played his last game for the Tampa Bay Lightning after their playoff loss to the Florida Panthers. With no contract ready from Julien Brisboise and the Lightning, is Stamkos a goner?
Back at the beginning of the season, in September 2023, Stammer expressed his bitterness over the lack of extension talks.
The season would progress and nothing would change, as talks of Stamkos being dealt got louder and louder. This led BriseBois to quickly shut down those rumors.
As the team ended their regular season, clinching a playoff spot for a 7th year with a battle of Florida with the Panthers, Stamkos directed his attention to winning another Stanley Cup.
The Lightning would come up short, only winning 1 playoff game in all of 2024, leaving us wondering where Stammer's future is headed.
So, where do the Blackhawks and Kyle Davidson come into play? Davidson has come out and stated that the Blackhawks want to compete this season, so it seems likely he'll make some aggressive trades and pickups.
Davidson has the star power in Connor Bedard, as a linemate for Stamkos, along with $30 Million in cap space to weaponize. The chance to play for an original six-team could be a good value proposition as well.
Stamkos, ideally would be the perfect leader for the team, posting 40 goals for the seventh season in his career, along with Stanley Cup playoff experience, and remains a top player in the NHL.
If Stamkos remains unsigned by the time free agency rolls around, he could look for an AAV of $6-8 Million and look for a multi-year deal.
Steven Stamkos could be one of the top options in free agency, should the Lightning fumble this legend.
