NHL insider drops bomb regarding a second hockey franchise in Chicago
The Carolina Hurricanes faced challenges this season without its own AHL affiliate, as the AHL team, the Chicago Wolves operated independently.
However, there's potential for change as David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that the Wolves could align with the Carolina Hurricanes next season.
This would be a significant improvement for Carolina, which had to loan prospects to various teams and send others overseas.
With a deep prospect pool, consolidating players on one team would offer benefits.
AHL Hockey's Tony Androckitis suggests that the affiliation agreement, if confirmed, will span three years with options for extensions.
