NHL Insider Reveals One Owner's Emergency Meeting With Struggling Team
The Buffalo Sabres are in a bad way, they've been on a ten-game losing streak, as GM Kevyn Adams and Coach Lindy Ruff have hit the panic button.
The losing streak has brought Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula into the discussion, as he flew out to meet the team during their road trip, according to rumors from NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.
The Sabres record is an abysmal, 0-7-3 in the last ten and with Pegula giving them a visit could signify big changes soon.
We have to keep that nothing is confirmed at the moment, but Friedman went into detail about the route Pegula could take during the visit.
I think in Buffalo there's a rumor going around that Terry Pegula, the owner who was at the owners meetings in the NFL last week with the Buffalo Bills, may be going to Montreal to meet the team on Monday.
And that means to me one of two things, either Kyle, he's making changes, or he's saying that this is the group and this is who we're going with. I mean, it's possible there's other options, but I wouldn't know what they are, so I think it's one or the other.
I've been around long enough to know that in these organizations when you sense the change is coming or you're waiting for change to come, they can Splinter apart. People aren't rowing in the same direction.
GM Kevyn Adams would blame Buffalo's tax structure, and lack of great weather as the reason Buffalo isn't a "destination city", unlike Florida. While he's not wrong, the team hasn't built a winning culture, which is what separates a team from Buffalo, like the Panthers or Vegas.
We don't have palm trees. We have taxes in New York. Those are real, and those are things you deal with. There's a lot of players in this league that we're on their (no-trade) list. So we need to earn the respect and it starts with getting over the hump, getting in the playoffs, competing.
While the Sabres have undergone an astounding decade-long-rebuild, which saw them ship Jack Reichel, and a mass amount of talent out of the city, could we see an overhaul in the front office?
Hard to tell what happens next, but the Sabres have talent that the Blackhawks could pluck from, if something major happens.
