It was assumed that the Edmonton Oilers could've been Stanley Cup champions last season. But the Florida Panthers put that to rest, as they tore through the Oilers like a buzzsaw early in the series. The Oilers would try and forge a comeback and succumb to the Corey Perry curse.

Lo and behold, the NHL regular season has begun and the Oilers are still rostering Corey Perry.

Unsurprisingly, the Oilers have lost the last two games, giving up 11 goals, giving up 6 straight to the Jets, and 5 last night to the Blackhawks.

Perry called out his team afterward.

He stressed accountability and the team's terrible play and slow movement.

"You can make all the excuses in the world, whatever you want to say, but everybody's got to look themselves in the mirror and start to bear down and make those plays hard. it's frustrating."

The Oilers would have a tough start of play against the Blackhawks, and in nearly 85 minutes they'd score a power-play goal, thanks to their 2nd unit.

Perry would take advantage of the opportunity and score on the Blackhawk's Petr Mrazek, tying up the game. The goal occurred in the 2nd period with help from Jeff Skinner, and Mattias Ekholm.

This would be Perry's 430th career goal in the NHL.

Despite that, the team would only rally for one more goal on the power-play in the 3rd period, with assists from Connor McDavid, and Ryan-Nugent Hopkins.

While the 2nd power-play unit looked weak last season, with the addition of players like Viktor Arvidsson, and Jeff Skinner the team could be deadlier.

But the problem is now, the team can't find their identity and was held to 2 goals against the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks.

Corey Perry was unhappy with the team's performance against his old team, and it looks like Kris Knoblauch and the Oilers are in for another slow start this season as well.

The Oilers are 0-2-0 in regular season play.

The last Oilers coach who had an issue with slow starts was Jay Woodcroft.

If the team cannot become cup contenders once again, what does his future look like too?

Corey Perry needs to help McDavid, and Draisaitl batten down the hatches or else they'll be toast early.

Who would've thought the Blackhawks in game two of the Oilers season would turn them into power-play merchants?
