The Senators have called the Canadian Tire Center home since their 1996 debut against the Montreal Canadiens. On January 17th, the banners would be raised and competition would begin again. But nearly three decades later, the team and the National Capital Commission could announce a new deal with LeBreton Flats.
The deal would be to house a new arena in the area. Insiders are surprised with how quickly the paperwork is moving on the deal and could be inked within a matter of days. But this is the first of many steps for the team to get the ball moving before they can begin construction.
The plan is for the Senators to play in their new arena by 2030, at the latest.
The Canadian Tire Center was considered to have plenty of potential when it was built, but it's far from downtown, and inconveniences fans.
The new arena is planned to be right next to Parliament, in the heart of the city and the team has plans to build out the area with shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars next to the arena. It'll be a pre and post-game spot for fans, ideally.
Michael Andlauer purchased the Ottawa Senators in 2023 and was given a timeframe of a year to negotiate a new deal for a downtown arena with the city of Ottawa.
With the deadline inching closer, it appears Andlauer is making significant progress. It appears Andlauer will fulfill his promises and keep the Senators in Ottawa for a long-time.
