Blackhawks legend issues statement on Kane's return to Chicago
Chris Chelios, whose jersey retirement night occurred on the same night Patrick Kane returned to the United Center. The game ended in dramatic fashion with Kane ending the game in overtime.
Chelios had expressed his hopes that Patrick Kane will be back with the Blackhawks next season.
The Hall of Famer wants to see Davidson build around Bedard, and there have been rumors that Steven Stamkos could be targeted as a solution to holes in the lineup soon to arise.
«Kaner. Absolutely Kaner,» Chelios said. «As a fan, I want him back as a fan. I'm not really supposed to say anything as an employee of the Hawks. But it just would seem like a great fit after his first game back, the ovation, what Kaner meant to these fans in Chicago, and what he's done. No question, that Stamkos would be a great addition, but I think Kaner's still got lots left.
«Kyle Davidson said they're going to surround Bedard, they're going to speed up this rebuild process, so let's see. I hope it happens. Plenty of money to spend.»
It could be considered an epic choice, as Bedard would get a great right wing to bolster the top line, while fans get nostalgia and great hockey.
However, even while Chelios's wants align with the fan's wants, will the organization consider it? Likely not.
Davidson wants to move on from the legacy of the past to build towards the future, which is a lofty goal and his drafts show us a long-term perspective towards building. But there's uncertainty for Davidson's next move during free agency.
