BREAKING: Blockbuster Trade imminent involving Star player
The Pittsburgh Penguins are out of the playoffs for the second consecutive season. With Kyle Dubas the former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager replacing Ron Hextall in Pittsburgh, he has a mandate to turn the struggling franchise around.
After acquiring defenseman
Erik Karlsson in the off-season, Dubas embarked on a new direction, however, the results have been disappointing.
As a result of the team's awful play this season, Dubas will be selling at the trade deadline.
Sources say the Penguins are hoping to have a trade in place for
Jake Guentzel by tomorrow evening. Pittsburgh is open to quality over quantity in return, but would like a 1st, young NHL player, plus prospects. Flexibility comes in the calibre of prospect or roster player.
In Darren Dreger's report for The Fourth Period, Jake Guentzel is one of the most highly sought after forwards going into this trade deadline and is one contract Dubas will be looking to shed.
The buy-in price for Guentzel's trade is high, as Dubas is asking for a first round pick, a young NHLer, and multiple prospects.
He could become an expensive rental if he is sent to another team without an extension. As SDPN's Chris Johnston reports there isn't an extension being discussed for the winger.
The expectation is that Guentzel will be dealt by the #pens as a rental. It doesn't sound like potential acquiring teams have shown much interest in trying to work out an extension as part of the trade
Jake Guentzel has played 50 games this season, scoring 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points.
Guentzel will likely be the best winger available during the trade deadline, and the team that wins the sweepstakes should consider making an extension a priority.
