On Saturday, defenseman Wyatt Kaiser was placed into concussion protocol. Kaiser had started the season with the Blackhawks and managed to post 4 assists in 23 games.
However, he struggled and was sent down to the AHL in November. Since joining the IceHogs, he has only managed to score 3 points, with 1 goal and 2 assists in 15 games.

Kaiser was given another chance at the NHL while Seth Jones was out injured, but he was sent down soon after.

With Kaiser out, the Blackhawks are left with severely limited defense options.
This gives Isaak Philips and Lous Crevier more shots at the third pairing in Chicago in the meantime.
