Chicago Blackhawks organization announced the hiring of a new assistant coach
News broke Monday from the Chicago Blackhawks organization that they have hired a new assistant coach for the Rockford ice hogs in Josh MacNevin.
Prior to his hiring, the 47-year-old former defenseman who was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 1996 but never played a game in the NHL. He began his coaching career in the Western Hockey League with the Lethbridge hurricanes for seven seasons and then the Kelowna Rockets for the last three.
MacNevin will serve as the defensive coach for the ice hogs and will be responsible for the development of newly drafted defenseman Artyom Levshunov. He also will work with Ethan Del Mastro and Wyatt Kaiser.
As defence was the primary drafting position in this year's draft, it will be important for MacNevin to help bring these players to the next level and be prepared to join the Blackhawks within the next few years.
