NHL Insider's Update on Sidney Crosby's Contract Negotiations
While Sidney Crosby is the face of the Pittsburgh Penguins, it was suggested early in free-agency he may leave the organization.
But it appears GM Kyle Dubas looks to put a stop to those rumors, as Crosby doesn't intend to leave Steel City, as far as we can tell.
While the Pittsburgh Penguins have missed the Stanley Cup playoffs in consecutive seasons, and the superstar core continues to age and decline, questions arise about the future of the Penguins.
There have been suggestions that Sidney Crosby could leave the Penguins for greener pastures, but not according to Rob Rossi of The Athletic.
"I made a few calls to follow up, and the only real news perhaps another subjective term is that all parties (Crosby and his agent, Pat Brisson, and Penguins president of hockey operations/general manager Kyle Dubas) were comfortable enough with where the contract negotiations stood that everybody felt comfortable going about summer plans such as taking holidays and enjoying a bit of downtime," Rossi explained. "Nobody from the Penguins' hockey side is worried about Crosby eventually putting ink to paper. This is not to suggest some folks who deal with season-ticket holders/corporate partners aren't sweating until he does."
Crosby's superstardom is defined by leading the Penguins to three Stanley cups, and considered by many to be a top-10 player in the NHL.
It would be tough for many Penguins fans to see him wearing another crest, but for now, all we can do is speculate, and wait until a deal is done. There appears to be confidence from Crosby's camp that a deal will be finished soon, and GM Kyle Dubas would undoubtedly like this burden off his shoulders.
