top Blackhawks prospect issued a statement after being traded away
The Chicago Blackhawks have a prospect in the OHL, Gavin Hayes who just survived his first trade in the OHL.
Back in January of 2024, the SOO Greyhounds made a major trade for Gavin Hayes, sending a bundle of assets in return for the WJHC Gold Medal winning forward.
As part of the transaction, the Hounds acquire 19-year old forward GAVIN HAYES from the Firebirds in exchange Flint receives forwards Connor Clattenburg, Alex Kostov along with the following picks; 2nd Round, 2027 3rd Round 2025, 4th Round 2026 and 5th Round 2025. The forward has been a point-per-game producer in the OHL with the Flint Firebirds, and has proven his capabilities on the international stage.
Gavin Hayes speaks on being traded in the OHL and playing with his brother
And best of all, he gets to play on the same team with his brother.
Hayes had gotten the news on the way back from Sweden that he was being sent from Flint to Saule St. Marie.
It was a weird situation at first playing on the same team as he brother, but it wasn't after some time according to Hayes.
Hayes, a 2022 3rd round draft pick by the Chicago Blackhawks has been a force in the OHL, posting 166 points( 79 G, 87 A) in 158 OHL Games.
Hayes was previously Flint's 1st round draft pick in the 2020 OHL Draft, 16th overall.
Gavin and Travis, compliment each other, as they both play similar styles of hockey according to Joey Stockl of the Hockey News:
Gavin the brother of Avery & Travis Hayes is a sharpshooting winger who can rip the puck from just about anywhere in the attacking zone. He has lightning-quick speed, and can get pucks to the net just as fast.
Gavin joins his brother Travis with the Greyhounds, and they will unite for some potential "sibling chemistry" as they both have similar play-styles.
