On July 23, 2021, the Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets made a blockbuster trade which sent Seth Jones from Columbus to Chicago.
Firstly, the full trade was the Blackhawks sending 2021 first and second round picks, 2022 first round pick, and young prospect defenseman at the time Adam Boqvist over to the Blue Jackets.
The Blue Jackets only gave Chicago Seth Jones. Stan Bowman, the GM at the time, then proceeded to sign Seth Jones to a eight-year, $76 million extension.
There's one part of the trade that didn't turn out well, and it was Adam Boqvist. Today, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman announced that the Blue Jackets bought out Boqvist, possibly sending him to free agency.
Boqvist is 23 years old. At the time, it was considered a crime that he was traded for Seth Jones. But now, it doesn't look as bad.
