Connor Bedard's frustration with the Chicago Blackhawks' slow start has stirred speculation that the team might be looking to speed up its rebuilding process.
The Blackhawks posting a 2-6-1 record, the young star has made his disappointment with losing clear, hinting that the team needs to act.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, however, was quick to squash any rumors that Bedard might want out of Chicago.
But, as Friedman stated, Chicago's front office likely took notice and may already be considering ways to keep their budding superstar satisfied, reportedly in search for a second line center as Frank Nazar did not pan out to what the hoped for this year.
Bedard has stated he's determined to see Chicago succeed, but his competitive nature might be pushing the organization to reconsider its pace. According to Friedman, the Blackhawks must be careful with how fast they try to progress, ensuring that they don't take unnecessary risks just to appease their star forward. That said, the team added some key pieces this past summer, signaling they're eager to make progress - a goal that hasn't quite materialized yet.
Could a Trade Be in the Works?
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that the Blackhawks may be looking for a second-line center to complement Bedard's skill set. While the team is cautious not to rush into a trade, the lack of available centers on the market has created a dilemma. The Blackhawks seem open to testing the waters if they believe a move would support Bedard's goals for the team.
Chicago has 11 first- and second-round draft picks to leverage over the next three years, as Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times notes.
Given the Blackhawks' substantial prospect pool, these picks could be expendable if they opt for a trade to add depth and skill alongside Bedard.
Chicago reportedly tried to sign Jake Guentzel last season, showing their effort by Kyle Davidson to aim high for quality players to strengthen their roster.
Urgency is now added for Chicago's front office to find the right players and build a roster with Bedard as a centerpiece.
