In addition to being a hangout spot, the Palace Grill is adorned with Blackhawks memorabilia and colors.
An incident recently involving a fire damaged the hangout.
It had caught fire on February 9th, 2014, last Thursday night leaving the workers without jobs, fans without a place to gather, and owners in disarray.
It was an iconic Chicago spot, having been in business for 86 years in the West Loop.
As of 2:23 PM CT the arbitrary $15K goal was surpassed. Amazing considering the campaign started a day ago.
I just saw George and he was filled with emotion at the show of support. He made it clear that donations will be used to support his employees.

In addition to Blackhawks players and fans, first responders also frequent the diner.
It is not all lost, however, as long-time patron Katrina Vlasich has launched a fundraising campaign.
An amazing $15K goal was reached within an hour of starting the GoFundMe, and the owner, who had been devastated, has felt an outpouring of love and support.
Throughout the years, Vlasich and owner George Lemperis became friendly, since Vlasich was a regular before Blackhawks games.
In the beginning, Vlasich floated the idea and Lemperis was hesitant, but now they can rebuild together.
