The Chicago Blackhawks are missing top defenseman Seth Jones, who was placed on injury reserve on November 20th, 2024.

Jones would be removed from the lineup after he suffered a foot injury which was thought to have happened during a blocked shot against the Seattle Kraken.

"Unfortunate for us and him, he was rolling along pretty good," Richardson said ahead of Chicago's game Thursday against the visiting Florida Panthers. "But that's just the nature of the business."

Since then the Blackhawks have had to adjust the lineup with Jones missing giving a player like Connor Murphy a look on the top pair.

The Blackhawks have had a tough string of luck, as given up their last two games without Jones in the lineup, giving up 10 goals in two games.

Jones has been one of the Blackhawks' best defensemen who has scored 10 points( 2 G, 8 A) in 17 games this season.

Now, Luke Richardson has given us an update on Jones' likely return:

The Blackhawks do not have an official return date for the veteran defenseman and will have to rely upon Connor Murphy to fill in the gap.

Jones has been a vital part of the Blackhawks' defense and has played upwards of 25:43 TOI for the team.

If you've known Jones before his arrival in Chicago, you'll know how much Columbus misses his presence on the ice, as he played 60 mins against the Tampa Bay Lightning in 5 overtimes in the bubble.

The top Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman played more minutes in a single game than anybody else in NHL history, whether in the regular season or postseason. Jones, in a first-round matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, spent 65 minutes and six seconds on the ice during the 3-2 loss that took five overtimes to complete.

This season looked to be a return to form, for the $9.5 Million defenseman, but an injury will put a damper on hopes of solid defense for the Blackhawks.

Jones was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2013 draft by the Nashville Predators. In 814 games over 12 seasons with the Predators (2013-16), Columbus Blue Jackets (2016-21) and Blackhawks (2021-present), the four-time All-Star blueliner has 415 points (92 goals, 323 assists).
