This action was all part of Richardson's plan to force Bedard away from the rink as he refused to do so during rest days. The coach along with other members of his staff had to be creative to enforce Bedard to take rest between games as he continuously stayed on the ice every day.
Richardson explained that they attempted to take his sticks away but nearly caused issues with his contract with Sherwood as he would take other players sticks to use. Richardson also said that the team removed the steel in his skates and chose to hide it.
The enthusiasm and work ethic is off the charts for Bedard but it's imperative that he does take time to rest and relax even though he's brand new to the league and still under 20 years old. Richardson feels it's important for all athletes take the appropriate days to rest especially when the games can be 3 days and four nights.
Bedard along with the rest of his team are preparing for opening night as they are on the road against the newly appointed Utah hockey team. There are high hopes for the Blackhawks this year as this will be the first year the team attempts to move out of the basement of the standings and begin to move the needle in the right direction.
General manager Kyle Davidson went on a spending spree this summer and brought in better caliber players to help complement Bedard which could turn their fortunes around and potentially be in the playoff discussion sooner than later.
Game time will be 10:00 PM eastern.
