Blackhawks 'Next Jonathan Toews' to join the team and we now have the date
Sascha Boisvert was selected 18th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.
NHL.com analysis: The Blackhawks could use some size through the middle of the ice after taking centers on the smaller size the past two years at the draft in Connor Bedard (5-10, 185), Oliver Moore (5-11, 188) and Frank Nazar (5-9, 175). In addition to a bigger frame, Boisvert has greatly improved his skating, which allowed him to become more of a 200-foot player. If he stays in the middle or slides to the wing, he profiles as a power forward who is able to create extra room for one of those dynamic centers while also being able to finish chances at the net. He is considered to be 'the next Jonathan Toews'. He will be joining the Blackhawks development camp next season, and is expected to make a major push for the NHL roster.
The Blackhawks used to 18th overall pick to give the team some size down the middle, after drafting centers who could be considered "undersized" by orthodox NHL standards.
Boisvert has shown his brilliance already in the USHL, with the Muskegon Lumberjacks scoring 113 points in 2 seasons.
Since being a part of the 2024 NHL Draft class he committed to the University of North Dakota, a familiar place for Blackhawks fans, as another superstar went there, Jonathan Toews.
Boisvert could be another future Blackhawks superstar should he become a great 200-foot player, and add some size to his frame.
But he's continued the tear he was on in the USHL scoring his first "NHL style" goal in the NCAA with the University of North Dakota.
«Elite shot,» Berry said. «I've seen a lot of him in the last couple years watching him in Muskegon. He always had a good shot, and it was always accurate, but that was an NHL-caliber shot. When he got it, he talked about knowing where he was going to put it. It was in and out of the net before you even knew it.»
Boisvert scored 36 goals for the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL last season, totaling 68 points, and could be a future superstar for the Blackhawks if his development tracks well.
Boisvert was selected with the 18th overall pick which the Blackhawks when they traded down with the New York Islanders:
